Uttam Das, a talented writer from Silapathar in Dhemaji, Assam, has made history with his extraordinary skill in mirror writing—a rare art form where text can only be read using a mirror. His unmatched dedication to this craft has earned him recognition in both the Limca Book of Records and the India Book of Records.

Das first rose to fame for becoming the first person in the world to transcribe the entire Bible in mirror language in English. This six-volume masterpiece, begun in December 2004, was later presented to Pope Benedict XVI as a Christmas gift, drawing appreciation from global media including The Gulf Times, Times of Oman, Emirates Today, and The Sydney Morning Herald.
In addition to his work in English, Das also showcased his mastery in Assamese. In 2005, he completed the mirror writing of Naamghosha, the revered Vaishnavite scripture of verses devoted to Lord Krishna, originally composed by saint-poet Madhabdev. This incredible achievement earned him a coveted place in the India Book of Records. The official recognition highlights his dedication to preserving cultural heritage through an innovative art form.
For Das, mirror language is not just an artistic expression—it is a bridge between cultures and religions. Inspired by Swami Vivekananda’s teachings, he is currently working on mirror-writing projects for the Geeta in Hindi and the Quran in Arabic, aiming to promote interfaith harmony, peace, and solidarity.
Uttam Das’s journey is a shining example of how creativity, perseverance, and cultural pride can make an artist’s work timeless. His mirror writing of the Bible and Naamghosha stands as a rare achievement that blends devotion, artistry, and innovation, ensuring his place in history as a true literary trailblazer.
